Today was the first day of the Spring semester at my local community college. Today, I got to meet my professors. My algebra professor was insanely polite. My history professor was extremely funny. My humanities professor was extraordinarily wise. This is what brought me to write this post today.

Before I enrolled to take Humanities, I looked at Rate My Professors, so I could make a smart decision regarding who to take. The "reviews" for the professor I decided to take mostly consisted of phrases along the lines of, "very religious" and "biblically based." For this reason, I believed that this professor would be a good fit for me.

I have already taken some things away from class, even though today was only the first day. He started the class by asking, "who are you?" He didn't mean our names or a cool fact about us. He was asking who we are, as people. This was a rhetorical question, which was good considering no one was saying a single word. We sat in silence for a moment. After awhile, my professor asked us if we had ever looked at the top of our fingers. He then asked us, "What are those squiggly lines on the tip of your finger?" In unison, the class said "a fingerprint." My professor said, "That is correct. Your fingerprint. No one else that has ever lived on the Earth has the same fingerprint. Even after you're long gone, no one will ever have the same fingerprint as you. Shouldn't that make you feel special?" He paused for a minute before he continued, "There is no one like you. Each of you is a unique individual. You are not an accident waiting to happen. You were not put here by mistake. You are all fearfully and wonderfully made. You all have a purpose, and each of your lives has a plan."

Y'all! That's the truth. We are all unique. We were all intricately designed by God. We were all made with a purpose. God has a plan for us all. We have all been given a unique fingerprint, as we are all fearfully and wonderfully made. We should feel so special. God created me, you, and and everyone for a reason. God wanted you on this planet. That simple fact should make us so happy. Whenever you feel less than, look at the top of your index finger and gaze upon your fingerprint. The unique mark from the wonderful God who created us all.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

- Psalm 139:14
